Material Encounters

"Material Encounters" workshop introduction lecture by Philipp Fleischmann.
The opening Screening/Lecture will show a selection of 16mm and 35mm films, where each presented subject matter has a distinct reference to the material base of its making. Various mind states and approaches will be discussed in these personal, psychological, structural and conceptual encounters. All presented artistic expressions are bound to the medium of analogue film. This will also be the task for the participants of the following workshop. To create or provoke specific encounters, only possible through the medium of film.

Philipp Fleischmann


Philipp Fleischmann (b. 1985) - is an artist and filmmaker based in Vienna. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where he studied video and video installation with Dorit Margreiter. He also studied photography and film with Friedl Kubelka vom Gröller at the Schools for Artistic Photography and Independent Film in Vienna. Exhibitions and screenings (a selection): mumok kino, One Work Gallery, Vienna Secession, Berlinale Forum Expanded, Toronto International Film Festival, Viennale, Diagonale Graz, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Belmacz Mayfair, Kunsthalle Exnergasse, Media City Film Festival, and Anthology Film Archives. Since 2014, he has served as the artistic director of the School Friedl Kubelka for Independent Film.
