As the film journeys from one individual to the next, we spend time with boys and men ranging in age from 1 to 99 years old. Each 'youngster' listens to his elder's reflections and advice on the years to come. Taken together, their stories illuminate life's lessons about the opportunities and pitfalls awaiting us all.

The music of Lee Ranaldo is the ideal soundscape to the noisy city of New York. His words invites the viewer to create metaphors and free associations with the images in super8, shot on the streets .

In West Germany, ,,Dark Germany'' was a derisive term for reactionary regions of the country. Today its mostly applied to East Germany with its attempts to change its image: Factories and Chimneys are disappearing, wellness centers are popping up, sheep are grazing under solar panels. But recent past is stored close to the new surface. On a ghost train ride through the former GDR- industrial region around Halle/Bitterfeld, the Dunkeldeutschland-born filmmakers stumbling subjective camera is trying to find the right distance. Starting point of the Journey is the former ORWO film factory, where people used to work in complete darkness.

Three moments in time are captured in three layers of coloured imagery shown simultaneously. Combined, the layers form normal full-colour images of the elements which persist through time. Simultaneously transitory elements – animals, people, machines – move through these scenes in single colours, leaving only a brief trace, as if they're memories or ghosts who have left behind their past, present or future. Some people have lived for so long that they become as stable as their surroundings. With dignity they become archetypes of themselves, representatives of traditions which are as much a part of the landscape as the buildings. 'Three Dimensions of Time' is inspired by the photography of Sergey Prokudin-Gorskii.

"Ocean Hill Drive" examines a rare phenomenon, the so-called ‚shadowflicker', that occurs in a suburban area on the outskirts of Boston. As a result of an erroneously installed wind turbine, the flicker effect, which brings to mind structuralist experimental cinema, appears instead in documentary images showing the landscape and architecture of a Massachusetts coast town. Documentary images are complemented with a female voiceover, which is based on multiple interviews that were transcripted and assembled into a single narration.
